The spooky season is upon us and it is more popular than ever in Japan. Halloween is an event dedicated to dressing up in a creative costume and having fun with friends, so there is no surprise that Japanese people have gotten into Halloween with gusto. Here is what is on in Tokyo for Halloween 2023.

    Roppongi Hills

    Geared towards expat families, once again Roppongi Hills will be holding their annual Halloween events. There will be stage performances, a Halloween magic show, and trick-or-treating. Register at 10am if you want to join the costume parade.

    Sanrio Puroland

    Sanrio Puroland is holding “Spooky Pumpkin 2023”. It is a Halloween spectacular that lasts all night long! There will be many performing artists and DJs performing over several stages. You must be over 20 to enter.

    Kichijoji

    The Kichijoji Halloween Trick or Treat Festival involves trick-or-treating around the local businesses in the Kichijoji area. This one is for the kids, so be sure to prepare a spooky or cute costume. Kids can join in a street parade on the 25th and show off their costumes (ticket required). There will also be a Halloween themed stamp rally. You need to buy tickets in advance.

    Yumenoshima

    The Tropical Greenhouse Dome at Yumenoshima is once again putting over 100 giant pumpkins on display on the front lawn. This event is great for little kids as they love running around on the soft grass and climbing on and rolling around the pumpkins.

    Ikebukuro

    The Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival 2023 is a huge cosplay festival where over 20,000 participants dress up and take photos in their costumes. Kids and adults welcome.

    If you want to use the changing facilities and dress up, or participate in the parade, you need to book a ticket in advance. You should arrive in normal clothes and change there. The costumes are mostly anime/manga themed rather than spooky, so it’s Halloween Japanese style.

    Tokyo Disneyland

    Halloween at Disneyland is big every year, and this year is no exception. The entire park is decorated with Mickey-themed ghouls and ghosts. The Haunted Mansion will be themed especially for Halloween, and there will be a Spooky Boo parade every day. There is also seasonal food and souvenirs. You'll need to reserve your ticket to Disneyland in advance and be warned, it's popular at this time of year!

    Futakotamagawa

    This area is quite popular with foreign families, and they will be holding a Halloween event for everyone this year. The theme is "mysterious world", and there will be decorated photo spots along with a mysterious world to explore. There will also be a stamp rally for kids as they travel through the mysterious world.

    Harajuku

    Harajuku will hold the 39th Hello Halloween Pumpkin Parade this year, in which over 1,000 kids will dress up and parade down Omotesando. If you want to join the parade, you need to book in advance. There will be a candy rally, and a map will be given which lists participating shops where kids can trick-or-treat.

    Red Tokyo Tower

    Red Tokyo Tower currently has special Halloween Horror nights every night, with VR games for older kids onwards to partake in. The highlight is the spooky haunted house - do you dare? They will also have games that are more fun rather than scary, like "Red Light, Green Light".
