Most popular area is triangle area formed by Kichijoji, Shinjuku, and Shibuya. That is mostly within Suginami and Nakano districts.
Kichijoji/Chuo-Line/Suginami
The areas along two lines starting from Kichijoji are very popular for local residents with access to Shinjuku or Shibuya. Chuo line takes you to Shinjuku, and Keio-Inokashira Line takes you to Shibuya, both within 16 minutes by express. Kichijoji has been the best place to live for Japanese, with budget rent rate, exciting local shopping and gourmet, and most of all, the beautiful Inokashira Park. The towns along Inokashira Line have been wealthy’s’ residential area. In Hamadayama, there is a huge condominium development by Mitsui Realty, called Park City Hamadayama.

Keio line/Odakyu line/Seijo
Two private railways that start from Shinjuku station toward southwest have been commuter train for local Japanese who work in Shinjuku area. Although areas along Keio-Line and Odakyu Lines are mostly residential, streets in towns are relatively narrow and atmosphere is ordinal. Seijo is the one famous town where celebrities live.

Chofu/ASIJ/others
Chofu is city located west of Setagaya, connected to Shinjuku by Keio line. Surrounded by green and natures, this city is good place to live yet there are only several apartments/houses for expats because it is rural area compared to central Tokyo. The main campus of the American School in Japan is located here. Also, the local football team FC Tokyo has its home ground here, so for a football lover, this city could be an ideal choice.
