Shinagawa/Gotanda

Shinagawa/Gotanda

Takanawa has always been a residential area just like Hiroo and Shirokane. Writers, bureaucrats and royal family members used to live in this area. Shinagawa Station will enable you to go out to Shimbashi or to Yokohama in about 15-20 minutes. There are many hotels to accomodate travelers using Narita and Haneda Airports because it is fairly easy to get to either of them by using a train.

In spite of being in the heart of the city, Gotanda still retains nostalgic scenes of the past. Gotanda thus combines a relaxing residential area with abundant greenery, including cherry trees lining the Meguro River, and a business district bustling with activity.
Three lines (JR, Tokyu and subway) all run through Gotanda, and more than 100,000 people use the station everyday. This area is known as a business district, and also for its reasonably priced restaurants. On the other hand, on the hillside lies a quiet residential area, called Ikedayama and Shimatsuyama after the samurai families who used to live here. You will find various large residents, including the ones in which the present royal family members were born.
