Shiodome is a recently developed area close to Ginza and Shimbashi. TV stations and world-renowned enterprises have set up their offices in the high rises, and there are many stores, restaurants, art studios, entertainment venues, etc. Some high residential buildings have also been built in the same area, and Shiodome is finding its way to becoming a safe and enriched residential area. There are new transportation options such as the Yurikamome and Toei-Oedo Line. It takes only a few minutes to arrive at Roppongi; and if you take the Yurikamome Line to Shimbashi Station, the JR Line can take you anywhere around Tokyo. Most of the residential buildings in this area face Tokyo Bay and provide you with a beautiful view.
Descending to the south along the bay from Shiodome, crossing the Rainbow Bridge, is the Odaiba area. You can take the Yurikamome-Line to get there, too. About 150 years ago, this area was a fort with cannons and military camps to protect the country against foreign invaders. Now, it is a very popular sight-seeing spot in Tokyo, and also a new residential area. As a dating spot, many young people visit this area and the Rainbow Bridge. There is a large shopping mall (Palette Town) that has not only stores but also movie theaters and amusement space with various entertainment attractions. Venus Fort, another shopping mall, brings you to medieval European towns. There are areas where you can go wind-surfing, barbecue and even relax in a hot spring. Other attractions in this area are the Statue of Liberty, Rainbow Bridge, the large Ferris wheel, etc.
Hama-rikyu Garden
7 min. walk from Shiodome Station on the JR and Oedo Lines
Hama-rikyu is a beautiful garden park created on the site of a typical daimyo's (feudal lord's) residence of the Edo period. The park has a Shioiri-ike pond that changes its water level with the tide and two duck-hunting spots.
